Overview
The Case Linking feature allows organizations to connect related cases, such as family members within the same household. Linked cases make it easier to manage family relationships, view household structures, and track related individuals across the system.
⚠️ Warning: To enable “Head of Household” in System Settings, contact PlanStreet Support at: support@planstreetinc.com.
💡 Tip: You will need to designate the Head of Household before linking additional family members.
👉 Note: Names and information shown in the screenshots are fictitious and are used for training and instructional purposes only.
After the Head of Household feature has been enabled by PlanStreet Support in your environment, you can designate a Head of Household and establish household relationships between related cases by following the steps below.
1. How to configure Relationship Types:
- To set your relationship types, select the RelationshipType icon in Street Admin as illustrated below:
2. Next, select the Add Relationship Type icon as illustrated below:
3. Type in the name of the relationship type and select Save.
2. Identify the head of household case.
- Once you have identified the head of household, open that case and on
the Case Detail tab, under Case Management Details, select the Head Household dropdown and select Yes to set the case as a "parent" case.
2. Once Head of Household is enabled, a blue home icon will appear, as illustrated below. Hovering over the icon will display the alt text "Create Relation." You can only add relations from the head of household case.
💡 Tip: Designate the Head of Household before attempting to link family members. The household relationship options will not be available until a case has been marked as the Head of Household.
Selecting the blue home icon opens a pop-up window with 4 separate tabs highlighted and explained below.
- Head of Household
Users can create relationships between cases by selecting a case from the Link to Case dropdown, which displays cases that are not already linked, designated as household cases, or configured for multiple intakes. After selecting a case, choose the appropriate relationship and use the plus (+) icon to add additional links as needed. Existing relationships can be removed using the red delete icon. Case names are clickable and will open in a new browser tab for easy reference. Once all relationships have been configured, click Save.
2. Family Linking
The Family Linking tab is used to define relationships between cases within a household. All required dropdown fields must be completed before saving. The system prevents duplicate relationships for the same case and will display an error message if a duplicate is selected. Existing relationships remain visible for review and maintenance.
3. Head of Household Name
Once family relationships have been established within a household, they can be reviewed, updated, or removed from the Head of Household tab. This allows you to maintain accurate household relationships as family structures or case circumstances change.
4. History of Family Linking
The History tab provides a record of household and family relationship activity. This tab contains two sections:
- Household Relations: Displays the history of cases linked to the household, including previously established household relationships.
- Other Relations: Displays the history of relationships between linked household members and other associated cases.
- These records can be used to review and verify household and family relationship changes over time.
Viewing Relationships from Linked Child Cases
- 👉 Note: Cases linked to a Head of Household will also display a house icon on the Case Detail page. Clicking this icon allows users to view the household relationship structure and see how the current case is connected to the Head of Household and other related cases within the household.
2. Click the house icon to view the household relationship tree. This provides a visual representation of how the current case is connected to the Head of Household and other related cases within the household.
Multiple Intakes
⚠️ Warning: When multiple intakes are associated with a Head of Household case, household relationships can only be added or updated from the original head of household case. Subsequent intake records provide a read-only view of existing household relationships and cannot be used to manage them.
⚠️ Warning: When multiple intakes exist for a linked child case, users can view household relationships and related child cases but cannot modify the relationship between the child case and the Head of Household case from these additional intake records.
Additional Household Considerations
⚠️ Warning: If the Household field is changed from Yes to No on a Head of Household case, all household relationships associated with that case will be removed.
💡 Note: The Household field is only available on Head of Household cases and is not displayed on linked child cases.
